On today’s #GrammarSeries we are talking about something that is very important to every writer – parallelism.

Parallelism in writing means you present your articles in a way that is consistent, flowing and parallel. Writing is not just about giving necessary information; it is also about the presentation, consistency and parallel structure.

Parallelism also means that if you start with to + infinitive,  you should continue that way.

Look at these examples, we are sure they will help you understand better.

Please note that the first sentences are incorrect and the second sentences are correct.

  1. There were teachers in the classrooms, in the offices and the field.

There were teachers in the classrooms, in the offices and on the field. 

2. Watching TV is both exciting and relaxed.

Watching TV is both exciting and relaxing.

3. To succeed during hard times, one must be patient, honest and have determination.

To succeed during hard times, one must be patient, honest and determined.
