#GrammarSeries – What’s the difference between anyway and anyways? Find out in this post

capture

Have you ever wondered if there is any difference between anyway and anyways? Well, did you ever get the answer We know the difference and today we are going to tell you all about it.

Anyways is an adverb that indicates the speaker is resuming a conversation or changing the topic of discussion. However. it is only accepted in informal writing. It has a casual tone and can be considered out of place formally.

On the other hand, Anyway is more acceptable in formal writing. It could mean two things;

Anyway can mean “getting back to what we were talking about.”

For example,

Anyway, I didn’t talk to my mum again.

Here, the speaker had diverted from the topic a little and wanted to get back to the conversation.

Anyway can also mean, “Regardless of what we just said.”

Here’s an example to illustrate that,

We didn’t like the food Sam bought, but we ate it anyway.

We hope this answers any question you had on this topic.
