There are times you make honest mistakes and you don’t even realize it until someone points them out to you.
On today’s edition of #GrammarSeries, we will point out one grammatical error you have probably made before and then teach you what is right.
Are you ready to learn?
How many times have you said something like this?
Everybody must bring their own books to class.
This is wrong. The correct statement should be:
Everybody must bring his or her own books to class.
This is because the indefinite pronouns: anyone, anybody, everyone, everybody, someone, somebody, no one and nobody are always singular. As a result the possessive adjective that follows it should also be singular.
We’re sure you won’t make this mistake again.
