Yes! its Thursday and time for a new writer feature. Today’s writer is young, and has started building a good following on social media because of her poems and short stories.

We know you will love this interview with her.

Hello Precious, please introduce yourself.

My full name is Ineh Precious Chineye. I’m currently studying English in the University of Ilorin. I’m in my second year. I am a budding writer who is still spreading her wings. I love hanging out with friends, listening to music, dancing. I’m a professional shower singer, my love for good food is eternal and I cook too. I also love spending quality time with my family and reading a good book even though most of the time I love to write my own stories.

Your instagram name is @thewittywriter can you please let us in on why you chose that name?

“Witty” is another word for smart and I believe I’m smart enough so I chose “the witty writer.”

When did the love relationship between you and words start and why did you decide to start writing professionally?

It started a long time ago, when I was in primary school. I used to enjoy reading books a lot and that inspired me to write. I came out of my shell only last year due to the inspiration I got from my best friend who is also a writer.

What’s the worst thing anyone has said about your writing?

Worst thing? Okay sometimes people think it is not deep enough and there’s a lack of words I should have used. I’ve been told that I don’t have unique story lines as well.

You’ve used social media to share your writing gifts. Have you had issues with plagiarism?

No…no issues like that, I thank God.

Some people believe that writing can never be financially rewarding, what do you think?

I don’t share that sentiment. Of course it can be financially rewarding. If you look at famous writers like Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie, Wole Soyinka and the rest, they’re all great writers whose works have been renowned all around the world and they’ve made a lot of money because of the copies of their books sold around the world. Or even the author of “Harry Potter” series; she is one of the richest women in the world. Of course it can be financially rewarding you just have to be excellent at it.

What do you love most about writing?

What I love most is the fact that when I write, I can escape from reality. I can be someone else. I can create new people, new sceneries, new everything that’s different from the one I’m in. That’s what I love about it. Its my only escape route from reality.

Do you plan to publish a book anytime soon and why?

Soon? I don’t think so. I’m not ready yet. It needs a lot of planning and commitment which I don’t think I can give now. I’ll just do online based stories but full blown books? Not yet. There are still things I want to experience which I haven’t and I want to experience them before I publish.

photogrid_1484588241474What’s your ultimate desire as a writer?

My ultimate desire is for my work to be known all over. I want my work to inspire people, to take their breath away and to give them hope in life.

Have you done anything to improve your writing skill in the past years? If yes, please tell us what you’ve done.

Yes I have. I’ve met new people, better writers than I am and I draw my inspiration from them. I also listen to inspirational music which pushes me onward and inspires my writing. I’m still learning day by day.

What is your opinion on the belief that ‘Talk is cheap?’

Talk is cheap. Yes it actually is. It’s easier to say, to wish for something than to work towards getting it. I actually don’t base people’s success on what they say they want to do but on what they actually do.

What your advice to young writers?

I’m still a young writer myself lol…but I know there are younger ones who are scared to spread their wings. I’d like for them to come out of their shell. Think you’re good with words? Let the world know. Big things always have small beginnings. Inspire yourself daily. Never believe you can’t do anything and the sky will be your starting point.
